In late May, the second annual “Tractor gonkas” event took place in Malta parish, Rēzekne region, organized by local entrepreneurs. The event was run by the head of the “Garkalni” recreation area. Shortly after the race, videos surfaced on TikTok showing possible safety violations.
While performing routine duties, officers of the State Police noticed these videos and determined that they depicted situations endangering the lives and health of both bystanders and participants. Guntars Kračus, head of the Investigation Division of the Northern Latgale station, confirmed that an administrative process has been launched based on the facts.
The organizers state they have not received any complaints from the police or visitors. Security at the event was provided by volunteers. They do not believe any violations occurred on their part and point to the risky behavior of attendees. Sanita Smeile, head of “Garkalni,” emphasized that they followed all necessary requirements but cannot control every visitor’s actions.
The specific violations and potential outcomes of the administrative process remain undisclosed.
