Trump's envoys held over three-hour talks with Putin in Moscow
US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday for more than three hours. The American delegation is expected in Kyiv on Sunday.
US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday, September 5, and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. Russian state agencies RIA Novosti and TASS reported on the meeting.
According to RIA Novosti, by 22:56 local time the talks had already lasted more than three hours, and at 23:05 the agency reported that the meeting had ended and the motorcade carrying the American representatives had left Kremlin grounds. TASS later reported at 23:45 that Witkoff and Kushner had arrived at Vnukovo airport after concluding their talks with Putin.
Putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev posted a photo on social media platform X showing the American representatives near an aircraft.
Background
Before meeting Putin, Witkoff and Kushner had a working lunch with Dmitriev, after which they proceeded to the Kremlin. On Sunday, the American negotiators are expected to travel to Kyiv.
Earlier on September 5, the Kremlin announced that Putin had ordered a three-day halt to strikes on Kyiv starting at midnight. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, following his conversation with the US president's representatives, also said Ukraine was ready to observe a halt on air strikes against cities involved in the negotiation process.
