Trump Waives Several Sanctions Measures Targeting Russia
US President Donald Trump has declined to apply several restrictions and tariffs provided for in a law on sanctions against Russia and Iran. He cites US national interests as the reason.

US President Donald Trump has declined to enforce several restrictions and customs tariffs that were set out in a law on sanctions against Russia and Iran. As a result, some of the pressure measures written into the law will not be applied for now.
Trump's order creates an exemption from the law's provisions. The president justified the decision by referring to US national interests.
Issued weeks after signing the law
The order came less than a month after Trump himself signed the law. The legislation was intended to increase economic pressure on Moscow, so the new decision partly limits its effect.
