US President Donald Trump said on Friday that his son, Donald Trump Jr., has repaid Umar Kremlev, head of the International Boxing Association (IBA), who had covered part of the costs of the younger Trump's wedding in the Bahamas.

Trump said he himself has hosted wedding parties for "numerous people" at "beautiful places" such as his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. "They get married, I give them a party," Trump told reporters, adding that, as far as he understood, Don had paid Kremlev back.

Investigation findings

On September 14, ProPublica published an investigation reporting that Kremlev had paid part of the cost of Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding in the Bahamas. A spokesperson for Trump Jr. did not deny that Kremlev had covered wedding expenses, describing the Russian as "a personal friend of Don" who "bonded over their love of boxing and the outdoors."

Congressional Democrats have opened an inquiry into Kremlev's payment toward the wedding. However, US Attorney General Todd Blanche said he has no plans to investigate Kremlev's possible role in organizing the event. "I think other members of the family don't know who this person is... When you say am I investigating – am I investigating what?" Blanche told reporters.
