US President Donald Trump admitted on Friday, 16 October, that he wears makeup. Speaking at a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, held to back Republican candidates ahead of the US congressional elections due in November, he said that without it he would look "a bit like a dead person".

Attack on Senator Ossoff

During the speech, Trump turned to Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, who is running for re-election to the US Senate this year. The president ridiculed his rival's spending on cosmetics and a makeup artist, claiming the politician spends huge sums on his appearance.

"He goes all out. He always has a makeup artist there. I don't know how he does it, but he spends a fortune on cosmetics," Trump said. He also claimed Ossoff has spent more on cosmetics than any other senator in the history of the Senate, adding that women in the Senate are not happy about it.

According to the source, Ossoff's campaign has spent almost 3,000 US dollars on professional makeup services since February. The services were provided by makeup artist Stephanie Pondere, who has also worked on major Hollywood film projects.

The president's admission

Trump then unexpectedly spoke about himself. "By the way, I use very little makeup and I put it on myself," he told the audience. He justified this by saying that without makeup he looks a bit like a dead person, and he does not want to look that way.

At the event, Trump urged Georgia residents to vote for Republican Mike Collins, who is running against Ossoff.

Reaction

The president's remarks did not go unnoticed on social media, where a video clip of his admission about using makeup began to circulate.
