Trump reportedly tells Putin he is prepared to help end war in Ukraine
During a phone call, Trump told Putin that ending the war in Ukraine is critical and offered assistance. Putin's adviser also said Trump informed the Russian leader that the US is nearing a peace deal with Iran.

US President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin during a phone call that ending Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine was critical and that he was prepared to help, according to Russia's TASS news agency.
The call took place on Sunday and lasted about an hour. Putin's adviser Yuri Ushakov described it as “friendly and frank.” He also said Trump informed Putin that the US is nearing a peace deal with Iran, as the US-Israel war against that country continues.
The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for more than four years, since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022. The conflict has now lasted longer than World War I, which continued for 1,566 days. Peace negotiations have largely been on pause, but Trump officials recently stated that they want the war in Ukraine to end “as quickly as possible,” according to a senior official who briefed reporters during the G7 summit last week.
During the call, Putin also wished Trump a happy 80th birthday in an informal manner, Ushakov said. Trump had previously announced plans to celebrate his birthday, which falls on Sunday, with a cage match on the White House South Lawn. The $60 million “UFC Freedom 250” event will feature a 92-foot steel structure, reminiscent of a colosseum, and host seven fighting bouts.
