Trump: Putin wants peace with Ukraine more than Zelensky does
US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House that, in his view, Russian leader Vladimir Putin wants a peace settlement with Ukraine more than Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does.
US President Donald Trump has commented on the war in Ukraine and the prospects of a peace settlement. Answering reporters' questions at the White House, he said that, in his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin wants peace with Ukraine more than Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does.
The remark is Trump's own assessment of how willing each leader is to reach an agreement. The source does not explain what the conclusion is based on, and it mentions no specific negotiation steps or proposals.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and the question of a possible peace deal remains one of the central issues in international politics. Public statements by the US president on the two sides' readiness to settle are therefore closely watched.
