US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he does not believe Russia would attack any NATO member state.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he has had good conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed confidence that Putin will not attack NATO territory.

Trump made the comment when asked about the possibility that Putin could direct military aggression against a NATO member country. The US president based his assessment on his personal experience in talks with the Russian leader.

The statement comes amid continued international tension over Russia's war in Ukraine, with several NATO members, including the Baltic states, having voiced concerns about potential Russian threats to the alliance's eastern flank.
