The holder of the world's best marathon time, Sabe, has announced he will not compete in this year's Berlin Marathon on September 27 due to an injury, according to a statement cited by race organizers.
The athlete expressed disappointment at missing the chance to achieve something special on the streets of Berlin and finish at the Brandenburg Gate, where he had hoped for a strong result. He thanked his supporters and wished good luck to all participants of this year's race.
Recent achievements
Earlier this year, Sabe set an all-time best result at the London Marathon, completing the distance in 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds — the first time the symbolic two-hour barrier has been broken.
The runner's first major career success came in 2023 in Riga, where he won the world championship half-marathon title. Last year he also triumphed at both the Berlin and London marathons, confirming strong form across several of the world's biggest races.
