Orthopedic trauma surgeon Georgs Pelēcis has in recent years become known not only among colleagues but also among the wider public. For many, his surname is first associated with classical music, but the younger Pelēcis chose a different professional path — treating injuries and joint conditions.

Instead of sitting down at a piano, he chose to head into the operating room, and today calls Rīga 1st Hospital his second home, spending much of his working time there. Among the public and his patients, he is regarded as one of the most recommended orthopedic trauma surgeons in the country.

Work he doesn't discuss at home

In the interview, the doctor revealed that he does not share everything from his working day with his family — for example, at home he avoids describing in detail situations where a patient began bleeding during surgery. This reflects his effort to keep his professional and family life separate.

During the conversation, Pelēcis also repeatedly emphasized one of his main messages to patients: that the laws of nature and the body's aging processes cannot be avoided. With this view, he tries to set realistic expectations for patients about treatment possibilities, especially in cases where injuries or joint problems are related to age.

Georgs Pelēcis belongs to a family whose name has been known in Latvia for several generations, but he chose to follow a path different from music, finding his professional calling in medicine instead.
