Trae Young declines $49M option to sign max contract with Washington Wizards
NBA guard Trae Young has opted out of his remaining contract and will sign a new deal worth approximately $212 million with the Washington Wizards.

Trae Young, now a free agent, has decided to decline his player option and forgo the one season left on his contract worth $49 million. Instead, he agreed to a new contract with the Washington Wizards valued at around $212 million — the maximum amount he could receive with any other team.
This season, Young started with the Atlanta Hawks alongside Latvian Kristaps Porzingis, but was traded to Washington in January, while Porzingis moved to the Golden State Warriors. Due to injuries, Young played only ten games for Atlanta and five for Washington. His season averages were 17.9 points and 8.0 assists per game.
Young spent seven and a half seasons with the Hawks. Last season, he led the NBA in assists with an average of 11.6 per game.
