Wet and gloomy weather to grip Latvia on Wednesday

Meteorologists forecast overcast and damp conditions across Latvia over the next 24 hours, with rain expected in many areas.

Overnight into Wednesday, rain will gradually shift from Latgale toward Vidzeme and Zemgale, while Kurzeme stays largely dry with little cloud cover. A northerly wind will blow in gusts of 8-13 meters per second, reaching up to 18 meters per second along the Gulf of Riga coast. Overnight temperatures will fall to between +7 and +13 degrees.

Changes expected during the day

During the day, skies will be mostly cloudy with rain in many places. Winds will gradually weaken and shift toward the east, though Kurzeme will remain windier — coastal areas there can expect northerly and northwesterly gusts up to 16 meters per second in the first half of the day. Daytime highs will reach only +11 to +15 degrees.

Conditions in Riga

In the capital, Wednesday morning and late morning will bring cloudy, rainy weather. Rain will continue intermittently in the afternoon, with occasional sunshine breaking through the clouds. Overnight and in the morning, temperatures in Riga will drop to +11 degrees, with northerly wind gusts reaching up to 14 meters per second, and up to 18 meters per second in the city's northern districts. By afternoon, winds will ease and temperatures will climb to +14 degrees.
