Isolated showers expected Wednesday, wind set to calm as sunnier days approach

On Wednesday, August 12, skies will be mostly cloudy across Latvia, though clearing is expected in the western part of the country as the day progresses, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. Overnight, precipitation is expected in many areas, while during the day rain will only occur in isolated spots and remain brief. A thunderstorm is still possible in some areas early in the night.

Winds will be light to moderate from the west and northwest, with gusts along the Gulf of Riga coast reaching 15-16 meters per second overnight, and up to 14 meters per second near the coast by Wednesday evening. Overnight temperatures will drop to +7...+12 degrees Celsius, slightly warmer along the coast at +12...+16 degrees. Daytime temperatures will rise to +16...+21 degrees.

Conditions set to improve in coming days

On Thursday, skies will be partly cloudy with no significant precipitation expected. Winds will remain light, though they will strengthen slightly near the Gulf of Riga overnight and shift to a northwesterly, northerly direction. Fog may form in places, particularly in Kurzeme, reducing visibility overnight. Nighttime temperatures will range from +8 to +13 degrees, +13 to +16 along the coast, while daytime temperatures will climb to +18...+23 degrees.

Friday will bring partly cloudy skies, with more cloud cover in the eastern part of the country, though dry weather is expected overall. Winds will be light. Nighttime temperatures will reach +9...+13 degrees, +12...+16 along the coast, and daytime temperatures will warm to +19...+24 degrees.

Over the weekend, continued influence from an anticyclone will keep days mostly dry and sunny, with temperatures rising by a few more degrees. Early next week, cloud cover is expected to increase with periodic precipitation, and temperatures will gradually begin to fall, though days will generally remain warm for the season.
