On July 10, the trio 'ELPO' released their latest composition 'Zen', the first single from their forthcoming debut album 'Skaņu akvārijs', due out in September. The piece serves as a musical invitation to pause and immerse oneself, offering a space for calm and reflection in a time when the world feels fragmented and attention is constantly demanded by the flow of information. Trio founder Jānis Rubiks explains that music can purify the mind and soul, just as water can envelop and cleanse the body.
In 'Zen', piano, double bass, and percussion create a meditative soundscape where silence is as significant as sound. The album 'Skaņu akvārijs' explores themes of peace, presence, and interconnectedness, which are also reflected in the single. Accompanying the single is a music video created by artist Alise Golovacka, shot in a one-take manner, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind 'Zen'.
The trio 'ELPO' was formed in 2016 when musicians and friends Jānis Rubiks, Edgars Cīrulis, and Rūdolfs Dankfelds came together through a shared musical language. They freely cross genre boundaries, blending the openness of jazz, the depth of contemporary classical music, and the energy of rock. Their music is characterized by expansive, meditative soundscapes, dynamic rhythmic structures, and intuitive interplay. Over the years, the trio has performed in Latvia, Germany, Lithuania, and Norway, collaborated three times with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, and shared the stage with internationally recognized artists such as John Ruocco, Julie Silvera, and Rokas Zubovas. The single 'Zen' is available on all major streaming platforms.
