Three times in three decades: Lebanon shelter targeted again
The village of Qana in Lebanon has seen its bomb shelters hit three times in 30 years by Israeli forces, according to AJLabs tracking.

The southern Lebanese village of Qana, long known as a site of civilian tragedy, has suffered three separate attacks on its shelters over the past three decades. In each instance, the strikes were carried out by the Israeli military.

The analytical platform AJLabs, which tracks conflict zones, has documented this pattern: in 1996, 2006, and 2026, Qana's shelters were bombed, each time causing mass casualties. While international condemnation has followed, Israel has consistently claimed it was targeting military assets.
Qana first gained global attention in 1996 when a UN shelter was struck, killing over 100 people. Similar events recurred during the 2006 war and again in the 2026 escalation.
The case highlights the challenge of protecting civilians in armed conflict, where even designated safe zones become repeated targets.
