Three international news: Hungarian president steps down, EU countries want to defund Olympics, failed push for Israeli settler sanctions

The Hungarian president, appointed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has signed an amendment removing himself from power. This follows a months-long campaign by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who has been increasing his influence.

Nine European Union countries have sent a joint letter urging to defund the Olympics in response to Russia's re-entry into sporting events. The countries argue that Ukrainian athletes are unable to train under equal conditions due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, several EU member states have failed to force the European Commission to propose concrete measures for sanctions against Israeli settlers. Attempts to compel the Commission to act were unsuccessful.
