US President Donald Trump's business partner Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Sunday before departing for Kyiv, Ukraine's capital.

The White House said the roughly three-hour meeting focused on "substantive plans" for next steps toward ending the war in Ukraine.

Kremlin's assessment

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as "highly useful," but stopped short of indicating that any breakthrough had been achieved during the discussions.

Following their visit to Moscow, Witkoff and Kushner continued on to Kyiv, where they are expected to brief Ukrainian officials on the outcome of their meeting with Russian leadership.

No further details on the specific proposals discussed have been made public so far.
