Trump reportedly voted by mail in Florida Republican primary

Politico and the New York Times report that President Donald Trump cast his ballot by mail in Florida's Republican primary, a move the White House has confirmed despite his long-standing criticism of mail-in voting.

Politico, citing Palm Beach county voting records, reported that President Donald Trump voted by mail in Florida's Republican primary. A White House spokeswoman later confirmed the vote to the New York Times, explaining that Trump is officially a Palm Beach resident who participates in Florida elections, even though he primarily lives at the White House in Washington DC.

According to the New York Times, this marks at least the third time Trump has mailed in his ballot, following mail votes in 2020 and during a special statehouse election earlier this year. His most recent mail ballot was sent on 13 August.

A contrast with his own policy

In March, Trump signed an executive order aimed at restricting the use of mail-in ballots ahead of November's midterm elections, which will determine control of Congress. The president has criticized mail-in voting for years, pushing for tighter restrictions and falsely claiming his 2020 election loss resulted from widespread voter fraud.

On Monday, in a post on Truth Social, Trump repeated these claims, implying mail-in voting is insecure. He cited India's Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, noting that India's last election drew 646 million voters, with less than 1% voting by mail and every voter required to present valid photo identification. Trump called for passage of what he referred to as the SAVE AMERICA Act.

A federal judge has already blocked part of the executive order from being implemented by the US Postal Service, though the Trump administration has asked the supreme court to intervene. Trump first registered to vote in Palm Beach county in 2019.
