Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to Washington is seen as a possible opportunity for Trump to make progress on this issue. China has historically been North Korea's closest ally and its main trading partner, giving it potential leverage to help facilitate a meeting between the two leaders.
It remains unclear whether and how such cooperation with China might affect future talks between Washington and Pyongyang.
