Trump rallies past Wu Yize to reach Shanghai Masters final
Judd Trump beat world champion Wu Yize 10-6 to reach the Shanghai Masters final, where he will face either Kyren Wilson or Zhao Xintong on Sunday.
World number one Judd Trump advanced to the Shanghai Masters final with a 10-6 victory over home favourite and world champion Wu Yize. Trump, who lifted the trophy in 2024, will now contest his fifth final at this event. His opponent will be decided on Saturday, when Kyren Wilson faces Zhao Xintong in the second semi-final. The final on Sunday is a best-of-21 frame match.
Wu, 22, made a strong start in front of his home crowd, opening an early lead and compiling three century breaks in the first major tournament of the 2026-27 snooker season. Trump, however, recovered from a slow beginning to move ahead 4-2 and then maintained his advantage throughout. The 36-year-old Englishman contributed two century breaks of his own.
Trump said that starting well in Shanghai is always pleasing, and although the event carries no ranking points, it provides confidence because the best players in the world are taking part. He described the second semi-final as a great match-up and predicted an exciting final regardless of the opponent. He acknowledged that he has had a good tournament but stressed the need to finish the job.
