US President Donald Trump has announced plans to create a new 'AI Force' and appoint an 'AI czar' to lead it. The announcement comes as politicians and industry figures increasingly call for AI development to slow down.

US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he intends to establish a new body called the "AI Force" and appoint an "AI czar" to head it. In the post, he stated that his administration "will not in any way hinder or stifle the growth of this incredible industry," adding that it will instead be cherished, helped, and watched over as it grows.

The announcement comes amid growing calls from across the political spectrum, and even from within the AI industry itself, to slow the pace of artificial intelligence development.

Unsubstantiated claims about data centers

In his lengthy and rambling post, Trump described data centers as "wealthy and prestigious." He claimed, without offering evidence, that they raise salaries, lower taxes, and make streets safer in the communities where they are built.

A comparison to Space Force

The president compared the new initiative to his earlier creation of the Space Force, which he called a "tremendous success."

Trump did not provide a timeline or further details about how the AI Force would function, nor did he name anyone who might be chosen to lead it. He did, however, note that "only high I.Q. individuals need apply" for the AI czar position.
