Trump posts AI-generated video showing strikes on Iran's key oil island

US President Donald Trump has posted a 10-second, artificial intelligence-generated video on Truth Social showing purported strikes on Kharg Island, a location of major importance to Iran's oil and gas exports. The clip shows an operator at a control panel, followed by footage depicting attacks on oil and gas infrastructure and warships. Trump captioned the post saying Kharg Island was being "blown to smithereens."

The video was reported on by the outlet European Pravda, citing Trump's post.

No confirmed real strikes

On the same night the video appeared, the US and Iran exchanged strikes for the first time in more than a month, but there were no reports of actual American strikes on the island. This indicates the video Trump shared was artificially generated and does not reflect real events.

This is not the first time Kharg Island has featured in Trump's threats against Iran — throughout his campaign against the country, the island has repeatedly served as a rhetorical target. Unofficial reports have suggested the US president considered seizing the island as one option for expanding the conflict, though these ideas and threats have not so far been acted upon.

It is also not Trump's first AI-generated video shared recently — he had earlier posted a grotesque clip on Truth Social featuring "special forces geese" near Lake Ontario, referencing the trade dispute with Canada.
