World number two Judd Trump defeated China's Si Jiahui 5-2 in the last 16 of the Shenzhen Open, setting up a quarter-final clash with four-time world champion Mark Selby.

Trump produced breaks of 80, 71, 53 and 54 during the match, but his path to victory included an unusual moment of distraction. In the seventh frame, as he lined up the yellow ball for the top-right pocket, the LED advertising screen behind the table flashed blue in his eyeline just as Si had missed the same shot. Trump managed to regain his focus and cleared the remaining colours to complete the win.

Speaking afterwards, Trump acknowledged that he has struggled to convert crucial moments in matches this season and last, but said he believes that pattern can change if he keeps putting himself in winning positions.

Selby, who won the China Open back in August, reached the quarter-finals with a 5-3 win over Stephen Maguire, highlighted by a top break of 99.

Elsewhere in the last 16, reigning world champion Wu Yize beat Ricky Walden 5-3 and will meet Shaun Murphy in the quarter-finals, a repeat of their Crucible final from May. Murphy eased past Elliot Slessor 5-1, Yuan Sijun defeated Zak Surety 5-2, and Jimmy Robertson routed Scott Donaldson 5-0.

Among the upsets, Neil Robertson lost 5-2 to Chris Wakelin, while Kyren Wilson was beaten 5-2 by Michael Holt, who fired in a break of 126 on his way to his first ranking-event quarter-final since the 2024 UK Championship.
