Hockey camp coach detained in Tukums; police seek possible victims
Latvian police have detained a hockey camp coach in Tukums over alleged sexual abuse of a minor. The investigation has revealed that there may be more victims, and police are urging them and any witnesses to come forward.
Police in Latvia have detained a man born in 1999 on suspicion of committing sexually abusive acts against a minor during a hockey camp in Tukums. The criminal investigation was launched after information was received on 24 July 2026, and the following day a court ordered the suspect to be held in custody.
According to the State Police, one of the camp participants reported facts suggesting that the coach may have targeted more than one child. Officers are now working to identify any additional victims and have called on members of the public to come forward if they have information about possible offences committed by this man.
Parents whose children attend hockey camps have been singled out in the appeal. Witnesses or victims can contact police by calling 63004340 or the emergency number 112.
The case is being investigated under Article 160, Section 4 of the Criminal Law, which covers sexual acts involving physical contact with a victim under the age of 16 committed through the use of violence, threats, authority or other influence. The offence carries a sentence of five to fifteen years in prison, along with up to five years of probation supervision.
Police records show that the detained man had previously come to the attention of law enforcement in 2022 in connection with drug use. The investigation is ongoing, and police have declined to give further details for the time being. They also reminded the public that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty and encouraged parents to talk openly with their children about their experiences at school and extracurricular activities.
