Unlicensed driver fined €1,000 for speeding in Tukums district
Police stopped an unlicensed driver on the Ventspils highway in Tukums district who was going more than 60 km/h over the limit, resulting in a combined €1,000 fine.
On Monday, State Police stopped a Volkswagen on the Ventspils highway in the Tume parish of Tukums district after noticing it traveling unusually fast in the opposite direction. The speed limit on that stretch of road is 90 km/h, but the car was clocked at 152 km/h.
After pulling the vehicle over, officers identified the driver as a man born in 1994. A document check revealed he did not hold a driving licence at all.
Two separate fines
For significantly exceeding the speed limit, the man was fined €720 and barred from obtaining a driving licence for nine months. For driving without a licence, he received an additional fine of €280.
In total, the man must pay €1,000, and he will be unable to legally obtain a driving licence for the next nine months.
