Tukums withdraws Freedom Square sculpture plan after public criticism
The municipality of Tukums has begun the reconstruction of Freedom Square, which included a planned female sculpture, but after residents' backlash, the artists have withdrawn their proposal.

This summer, Tukums launched the reconstruction of Freedom Square, a project approved over a decade ago. Alongside the renovation, an artistic accent was planned – a sculpture of a woman to complement the fountains. However, this element has sparked broad public discussions in recent weeks. Following criticism from local residents, the creators of the sculpture have announced that they are withdrawing their proposal.
