Train traffic on the Tukums railway line was halted Friday evening after a tree fell on the overhead contact wires in the section between Zasulauks and Priedaine. According to information published by the state joint-stock company Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz), the incident also damaged railway infrastructure, and movement on the affected stretch has been closed.

LDz specialists have started working to remove the tree and repair the damage. No estimate has been given for when normal service might resume. The disruption has already affected passenger services.

According to the website of AS Pasažieru vilciens, which operates under the brand Vivi, the train due to depart from Sloka at 21.09 and arrive in Riga at 21.59 is currently standing at Priedaine station. Its expected delay is 30 minutes. Meanwhile, a train that was due to leave Riga at 21.00 and arrive in Sloka at 21.50 is currently stopped in the Babīte–Priedaine section, with an expected delay of about 20 minutes.

The fallen tree has caused significant disruption on the Tukums line, and passengers should anticipate longer travel times until the infrastructure is repaired.
