Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday after a meeting of the Ukraine support group in Paris that the first Good Will Coalition military exercises will be held in Poland this autumn. He stated that soldiers from France and the United Kingdom will participate, with Poland acting as both host and participant.
The purpose of the exercises is to prepare the coalition to provide "concrete security guarantees to Ukraine, as well as to the entire region," Tusk said. French President Emmanuel Macron first announced plans for joint exercises on Monday during a Good Will Coalition meeting in Paris.
The Good Will Coalition consists of countries willing and ready to contribute to supporting Ukraine. The coalition aims to coordinate international security guarantees, strengthen support for Ukraine's defense, and build a common approach toward a just and lasting peace in Europe. It plans to create multinational forces led by European countries with US support to help guarantee Ukraine's security after the war ends. However, efforts to achieve a ceasefire or a broader peace agreement in Russia's war against Ukraine have stalled.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Poland is also open to the permanent deployment of French and British troops. "If we take greater responsibility for NATO's eastern flank, then those who live far from it will come to Poland," he added.
