At the U18 European Athletics Championships in Rieti, Italy, Latvian athletes experienced both setbacks and successes on the second day of competition.

Heptathlete Ieva Kauliņa, who set a personal best in the shot put yesterday and moved up to fifth place overall, had all three attempts in the long jump disallowed, leaving her without a mark. In such cases, athletes typically withdraw or continue without a chance for a high ranking. Kauliņa's further participation in the championship is uncertain.

In the javelin throw qualification, Elza Černuho achieved 47.39 meters this morning, placing fifth in Group A. The second Latvian representative, Elīza Ligere, will compete in Group B. Ligere was considered one of the favorites before the championship (ranked 4th in the entry list). The top 12 from both groups combined will qualify for the final.

Other Latvian hopes at this championship, based on personal bests, include Ieva Malnača in the 100m and 200m (ranked 6th), as well as several other athletes in various events. The second day schedule also features Emīlija Brauna and Alise Blaua in long jump, Markuss Celms and Elans Bertmanis in 400m hurdles, Anna Vecbaštika, Ksenija Fjodorova, Anastasija Fomenko, Ieva Malnača, Viks Donis, Aleks Ajibola Dezmonds, and later Emīlija Vīksna and Katrīna Daudzvārde in the 400m.
