Samauskis finishes 12th in discus at U20 World Championships
At the U20 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, Latvia's discus thrower Toms Samauskis placed 12th in the final with a throw of 58.88 metres.
The U20 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, are drawing to a close, with several young Latvian athletes competing in the closing stages. The discus final featured the 13 athletes who met the qualifying standard the previous day, including Toms Samauskis, the 2025 European Youth Olympic champion.
Samauskis opened with a modest 48.01 metres, had his second attempt ruled invalid, but improved to 58.88 metres on his third throw. That result placed him 12th overall in the final, the second-best outcome among the Latvian competitors at the championships.
The discus title went to American athlete Simone Roselli, who set a personal best of 66.39 metres. Estonia's Sten Erik Ir took second with 65.42 metres, while Joseph Salmon of Jamaica finished third at 64.37 metres.
Other Latvian results
Among the Latvian team, heptathlete Nikola Bunde produced the best result, finishing eighth. National team leader Brenda Apsite placed 21st in the triple jump this time. Several athletes did not complete their events, including decathletes Karlis Feldmanis and Ernests Lesinskis, while Elizabete Cirule did not start in the 100m hurdles.
