Two injured in fires in Latvia; fire service helps lost person out of forest

On Tuesday at 9:55 AM, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received a call to Lāčplēša Street in Liepāja, where a car and garage gate were on fire, covering an area of nine square meters. One person was injured and handed over to the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) upon the firefighters' arrival. Before VUGD arrived, a bystander rescued the injured person from the burning car, for which the service expressed gratitude.

At 10:33 AM, a call came in from Rubas Parish in Saldus Region, where a person had gotten lost in the forest. Rescuers used the sound signal of a tanker truck and a drone to search the area. The person was found and led out of the forest. The operation concluded at 1:35 PM.

Later that night at 4:03 AM, VUGD responded to Gaigalavas Parish in Rēzekne Region, where a cargo van was burning over an area of 15 square meters. One person was injured and handed over to NMPD. The fire was extinguished by 5:30 AM.

Over the past 24 hours, VUGD received a total of 34 calls – seven for firefighting, 20 for rescue operations, and seven false alarms. Firefighters also responded to incidents involving unattended cooking on a stove, a car, a shed, a power line pole, and trash.
