The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces has announced that a strike was carried out on Sunday against the Vityazevo airfield, located in Russia's Krasnodar region near Anapa.

Damaged aircraft

According to the General Staff, the strike damaged two Russian fighter jets — a Su-33 and a MiG-29. An "Orion" unmanned aerial vehicle that was present at the airfield during the attack was also damaged.

Context

Anapa and the surrounding Krasnodar region lie a considerable distance from the Ukrainian border, yet the area has repeatedly become a target of Ukrainian drone and other strikes in recent times. The Vityazevo airfield is used for Russian military aviation purposes, and aircraft stationed there have periodically come under Ukrainian attack.

Ukraine has not yet released further details about how the strike was carried out or what means were used. Russian officials have not publicly commented on this specific incident.
