Starlink restored in Ukraine for devices moving at high speed
Ukrainian Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara has said the "Starlink" satellite communications system and its military version "Starshield" work again in Ukraine, including on devices moving faster than 400 kilometres per hour. The restrictions had caused problems for the army, which uses the network to guide drones.

The satellite communications system "Starlink" and its military version "Starshield" have been restored in Ukraine for devices travelling at speeds above 400 kilometres per hour. Ukrainian Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara announced this on Saturday. The connection matters to the country's army, which uses the satellite network to guide drones in the war against Russia's invasion.
What the minister said
Khmara's words were quoted by the news agency Interfax-Ukraine. He said the connection is stable and called the outcome an example of how direct dialogue and the Ukrainian president's persistent position at the highest level produce results. According to the minister, this is important first of all for the front line, soldiers, drone operations, logistics and communications.
What came before
Restrictions on "Starlink" in Ukraine were first noticed in the night to 14 October. The satellite network then stopped working on devices moving at high speed. This proved critical for the Ukrainian army.
How the network is used
"Starlink", or more precisely its military format "Starshield", is used to control drones in attacks on targets in territories that Russia has occupied during the war against Ukraine. According to publicly available information, Ukraine does not use "Starshield" for strikes on targets inside Russian territory, because Russia is not within the network's coverage zone.
