Fire with explosions breaks out at home of ex-brigade commander's family accused of killing two civilians in Ukraine
A house belonging to the family of former 155th Mechanized Brigade commander Stanislav Luchanov caught fire in Kalynivka, Kyiv region, after residents reported hearing three explosions. Luchanov is suspected of kidnapping and killing two civilians.
A fire accompanied by explosions broke out at a house belonging to the family of Stanislav Luchanov, former commander of Ukraine's 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, in the village of Kalynivka in Kyiv region, according to the outlet hromadske.
Local residents said they heard three explosions shortly before the fire started. During the day on September 19, Luchanov's wife Daryna was seen in the village with their two children. After the relatives had left, explosions were heard that evening.
Firefighters who responded to the scene said the fire may have been caused by an electrical wiring short circuit. The blaze was extinguished and did not spread to the rest of the house.
Background
On July 11, hromadske reported, citing sources, that Luchanov was being sought after nine servicemen from his brigade were detained on suspicion of abducting two civilian men in Kyiv region. It later emerged that the case involved not only abduction but also the killing of the two men.
Ukraine's Military Law Enforcement Service said the former brigade commander and other participants were notified of suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty and premeditated murder of two civilians. Luchanov, suspected of kidnapping and killing the two men, was detained on July 13 in Kyiv. Among the nine detained servicemen is the brigade's battalion commander, senior lieutenant Dolgolenko. On July 14, a court ordered Luchanov held in pretrial detention.
