Ukraine expects over 400,000 doses of flu vaccine for new season
Ukraine's Ministry of Health has re-registered flu vaccines with an updated strain composition and expects delivery of more than 400,000 doses soon. Health Minister Viktor Lyashko made the announcement.
Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Lyashko said in a television broadcast that the Ministry of Health has re-registered flu vaccines in line with this year's updated strain composition. He noted that the composition of flu vaccines is revised annually, and this year was no exception.
Following the re-registration, the ministry is now working with the key suppliers that have provided vaccines to Ukraine in previous years. These suppliers have promised that more than 400,000 doses will be available for this year's flu vaccination season. According to Lyashko, the delivery is expected in the near future.
Updates to come through official channels
The minister added that news of the vaccines' arrival in the country will be published through the Ministry of Health's official communication channels. He urged Ukrainians to get vaccinated at the earliest opportunity.
In Ukraine, the epidemic season for influenza, COVID-19 and other acute respiratory viral infections typically begins in late September or early October and lasts until mid-May, making the timely availability of vaccines an important public health matter.
As a reminder, the United States approved the world's first mRNA flu vaccine in August. The product, mFlusiva, was developed by the American company Moderna and received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
