Ukraine to limit detailed reports on Russian missile strikes

Ukraine's military leadership has decided to change how it informs the public about large-scale Russian missile attacks. Air Force press secretary Yurii Ihnat announced on Facebook that certain restrictions will now apply to the morning reports on Russian strikes.

He stressed, however, that real-time warnings about incoming missiles will continue to be issued, and the Air Force will still provide the public with general data on Russian missile attacks. No specifics were given on exactly which details will no longer be disclosed.

Attacks growing more intense

According to Ihnat, Russia fired more than 450 missiles of various types at Ukraine in July, roughly 200 of which were ballistic missiles. Ballistic missiles are considered especially dangerous because of their speed and steep flight trajectory, which makes them far harder to intercept than cruise missiles or drones. They can be effectively shot down only with advanced air defense systems, most notably the US-made Patriot system.

The problem is that Ukraine currently faces an acute shortage of interceptor missiles for its Patriot systems. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said deliveries of air-defense missiles to Ukraine this year have fallen threefold compared with the same period in 2025.

In recent weeks, Russia has carried out massive missile strikes on Kyiv roughly once a week, killing civilians and destroying residential apartment buildings. One such attack illustrated the strain on Ukraine's defenses: none of the 28 ballistic missiles launched in that strike were intercepted.
