Newsweek magazine reports that Ukraine has convinced the administration of US President Donald Trump of its strategic importance and value. Kyiv has demonstrated readiness to be not just a recipient of aid but an active ally of Washington.

According to the publication, Ukraine used the situation surrounding the US-Iran conflict to showcase its strategic significance. Examples cited include a possible strike on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea and President Zelensky's statement that Russia is passing intelligence on US military bases in the Persian Gulf to Iran.

'If Trump says he needs allies who fight themselves, develop weapons, exchange intelligence, and put pressure on America's adversaries, then he already has such an ally,' the article states. Newsweek believes Ukraine is gradually changing its image from aid recipient to a partner capable of contributing to allied security. Potential areas of cooperation include drone manufacturing, technology exchange, and joint operations in the Middle East.

Urgent Request for Patriot Missiles

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a meeting with Trump, requested an urgent package of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems. In an interview with Axios, he said Kyiv had asked the White House for a 'winter package' containing 300 Patriot interceptor missiles.

According to Zelensky, without additional missiles Russia could carry out large-scale strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure this winter, causing a catastrophe for millions who could be left without electricity and heating. 'We needed Patriots yesterday,' the president stressed.

He added that Trump promised to do everything possible to help, but the situation is complicated by US needs related to the conflict with Iran. Ukraine is ready to share its military technologies and expertise with the US in exchange for the necessary air defense systems.
