Ukraine strikes Russian air-defense unit near Sochi, reports say
Ukrainian forces struck a Russian air-defense battalion near Sochi overnight into September 4, sparking a fire at the military site and an oil depot, Russian outlet ASTRA reports based on OSINT analysis.
Overnight into September 4, residents of Sochi reported hearing numerous explosions followed by a large fire. According to OSINT analysis by the independent Russian outlet ASTRA, the strike targeted an air-defense battalion belonging to the occupying forces.
Fire near Sirius settlement
Analysis of eyewitness video indicated the fire broke out near the settlement of Sirius, close to the Psou River on the border with Abkhazia. Analysts said this is the location of a Russian S-300 or S-400 anti-aircraft missile system.
An oil depot in Sochi also caught fire, with a tall column of flame visible to local residents from many kilometers away.
The report notes that the Sirius area has already been targeted by drone attacks on multiple occasions. Local media had previously reported that in the same area, near the "Wings of the Baltic" beach, occupying forces had installed a large radar right on the shoreline.
