Ukraine receives €4.36 billion from EU under loan support scheme
The European Commission said €4.36 billion has been paid to Ukraine from the EU's €90 billion support loan. Most of the money is meant for the state budget, with a portion for buying military equipment.

The European Commission (EC), the European Union's executive body, announced on Thursday that Ukraine has received €4.36 billion in financial assistance. The money was paid out of the EU's €90 billion support loan, through which the bloc is helping a country affected by Russia's war. The payment matters because Kyiv continues to depend on external funding both for basic state functions and for defence.
How the sum is split
The EC said €3.7 billion is intended to support Ukraine's budget, while €658 million is meant to finance the purchase of military equipment.
What remains available
Following this payment, €20.9 billion under the support loan is still available to Ukraine this year. A further €45 billion is planned for next year.
Ukraine's request and EU talks
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told EU leaders in October that Ukraine will need another €70 billion in 2027 "for defence, weapons and our resilience". That is more than the €45 billion the bloc has so far planned for next year.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said earlier that EU leaders will discuss additional assistance for Kyiv at their upcoming meeting. The next leaders' summit is planned for next week in Dublin.
