Ukraine is preparing to intensify its strikes on Russia's oil refineries as Moscow expands its attacks on Kyiv, according to a report. The move is part of a broader push by Kyiv to increase pressure on Russia's economy and military supply chains ahead of another winter campaign.

Targeting Russia's oil industry

Russian oil refineries have long been a target of Ukraine's long-range strike campaign, given their importance to both the Russian economy and the fuel supply for its military operations. The plan to intensify these strikes suggests Kyiv intends to continue and sharpen this approach, aiming to degrade Russia's capacity to finance and sustain the war.

Preparing for another winter

Alongside the stepped-up strikes, Ukraine is racing to develop new defensive and offensive capabilities, including interceptor drones designed to counter Russian drone and missile attacks, as well as new missiles and other weapons systems. This effort is tied to the approaching winter season, which in previous years has coincided with intensified Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

The developments point to an escalation on both sides of the front: Russia widening its attacks on Kyiv, and Ukraine simultaneously seeking to increase pressure on Russia's oil sector while bolstering its air defenses ahead of the coming winter.
