Ukraine receives €3.47 billion from EU for drone procurement
The European Union has granted Ukraine €3.47 billion for the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles, part of a €90 billion defense loan package.
Funding for Drones and Defense
Ukraine has received €3.47 billion from the European Union, allocated for the acquisition of unmanned aerial vehicles. The funds were provided under a €90 billion defense loan package. According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, a total of €45 billion is earmarked for Ukraine in 2026 under this mechanism. So far, €11.6 billion has been raised: €3.2 billion for budgetary needs and €8.4 billion for defense.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that the funds will help protect Ukraine's airspace. She noted that the EU and Ukraine are bringing their defense industries closer together by combining European production volumes with Ukrainian innovations. This is the new agreement on unmanned aerial vehicles that is now being implemented.
First Phase of the Plan and Additional Armaments
The allocated funds cover the first phase of the drone procurement plan. They include financing for additional drones, long-range jet drones, missiles, and Gripen fighter jets. The European Commission also stated that €28.3 billion will be allocated in 2026 to support Ukraine's defense industrial potential.
