Ukraine confirms strike on Russian oil refinery 1,300 km from the border
Ukraine's armed forces struck an oil refining and petrochemical complex in Salavat, Bashkortostan, overnight on 13 August, sparking a fire at the site roughly 1,300 kilometres from Ukraine's border.
Ukraine's General Staff has confirmed that its defence forces carried out a strike overnight on 12-13 August against the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat oil refining and petrochemical complex in Russia's Bashkortostan region. The facility is located in the city of Salavat, around 1,300 kilometres from Ukraine's state border.
According to the General Staff, the strike triggered a fire at the plant.
One of Russia's largest complexes
Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat ranks among Russia's largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes, with the capacity to process up to 10 million tonnes of hydrocarbons annually. The plant produces petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, polyethylene and other petrochemical products, and is reported to also supply Russia's armed forces.
Earlier, users on Russian Telegram channels reported that fires had broken out at both the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery and a Wildberries logistics hub in Bashkortostan following a drone attack.
