Ukraine and Britain sign declaration on artificial intelligence partnership

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham in Kyiv, where Burnham arrived on his first foreign trip since taking office. During the meeting, the two leaders signed a Joint Declaration of Intent between Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on partnership in the field of artificial intelligence.

The Ukrainian president's office described the move as an important step in defense cooperation between the two countries. According to the statement, the countries will work together on developing next-generation armed forces to accelerate the development and deployment of military AI capabilities, which will in particular strengthen Ukraine's combat capacity.

Background

Before the declaration was signed, Burnham announced during his Kyiv visit that London had approved a decision to share Storm Shadow missile production technology with Ukraine. The Kremlin described Britain's decision to transfer the secret production technology for the long-range Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles to Ukraine as "pouring oil on the fire." Burnham responded to the Kremlin spokesperson's statements regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.
