Ukraine and Norway sign Drone Deal and strategic partnership declaration
In Kyiv, President Zelensky and Norwegian Prime Minister Støre signed a strategic partnership declaration and a so-called Drone Deal, deepening cooperation in defense and energy.
On Saturday in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre signed a declaration on strategic partnership covering, among other areas, defense and energy. The news was reported by the Norwegian government's press service, via Yevropeiska Pravda.
The Norwegian prime minister said the partnership aims to strengthen the defense capacity and resilience of both Ukraine and Norway. He noted the agreement rests on three main pillars — defense, energy and resilience — explaining that Ukraine holds valuable experience in these fields that matters greatly to Norway, while Norway in turn can share expertise useful to Ukraine.
Energy support
According to the government, cooperation in the energy sector will continue through Norwegian support for protecting Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure. Oslo will keep helping restore and upgrade Ukraine's damaged energy infrastructure and reduce the vulnerability of its power supply.
The Drone Deal
Beyond the strategic partnership declaration, the two countries also signed the so-called Drone Deal, which will bring even closer cooperation between Ukraine's and Norway's defense sectors and industries. The Norwegian premier said the deal will boost the exchange of technology and expertise and enable joint efforts, including in air defense and drone technology.
The Drone Deal is a long-term defense cooperation model between Ukraine and partner countries, aimed at using the experience, competence and technology Ukraine has gained during the war to develop solutions that strengthen the countries' shared security.
Earlier, on August 23, Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced that Finland and Ukraine would soon sign a similar drone deal. Stubb is visiting Kyiv together with representatives of Finnish defense companies that have already concluded cooperation agreements with their Ukrainian counterparts.
