Ukraine's Defense Ministry talks to SpaceX about keeping satellite services stable

Ukraine's Defense Ministry is in talks with partners and SpaceX to keep satellite services stable for its military and prevent sudden restrictions. Elon Musk had pointed at the US military over the limits, but a US official now says the administration had nothing to do with them.

Ukraine's Defense Ministry said in October 2026 that it is holding talks with international partners and with the American space company SpaceX. The aim is to maintain stable operation of the satellite services used by Ukraine's armed forces and to prevent sudden restrictions on them. Because the services support military operations, an abrupt limit on them could affect the army's work.

A dispute over responsibility

SpaceX owner Elon Musk had pointed at the US military as the source of the limits. A US official now says the US administration had nothing to do with them. As a result, conflicting explanations have emerged publicly about where the restrictions came from.

What Kyiv is doing

The Ukrainian side is continuing talks with both partners and the company itself. The source does not say which specific restrictions were imposed, when exactly this happened, or what terms might be agreed. The outcome of the talks is not yet known.
