Ukraine Warns UN Security Council: "Our Patience Is Not Limitless"
Ukraine's UN envoy Andriy Melnyk warned that Kyiv may change its approach if the Security Council continues to delay action on Russian aggression, while reaffirming readiness for direct talks.

Ukraine has issued a stark warning to the United Nations Security Council, signaling that its patience is wearing thin and a shift in strategy could be imminent. During a UNSC meeting, Permanent Representative Andriy Melnyk stated that for the past 15 months, Ukraine has repeatedly called for a resolution demanding a full and unconditional ceasefire, but these efforts have not received an adequate response.
Melnyk emphasized that Kyiv remains open to direct negotiations with Russia to achieve a just and lasting peace in line with the UN Charter. However, he cautioned that this willingness has limits. "Our patience is not limitless," he said, urging the Security Council to reconsider its "wait-and-see" approach. If this continues, Ukraine may change its approaches.
The envoy also pointed to shifting dynamics on the battlefield, noting that the air defense shield built around Moscow is no longer capable of protecting military targets. He added that Russian propagandists have begun to acknowledge that the war launched by Vladimir Putin is boomeranging back onto Russian territory.
Concluding his speech, Melnyk directly addressed the Russian representative, demanding an immediate withdrawal from occupied Ukrainian territories. "You will never be able to hold onto the occupied lands. Never. Get out of Ukraine as soon as possible," he stated.
This warning comes as the UN reported that May 2026 was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022, with at least 274 killed in Russian attacks.
