Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha initiated a phone conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to a statement from Sybiha on social media. The call was described as direct and frank.

During the conversation, Sybiha stressed that Ukraine's primary objective is to prevent unnecessary escalation. He reiterated that all Ukrainian actions are defensive measures against Russian aggression and have never been directed at civilian ships or civilians. This clarification came in response to Iran's remarks regarding the death of an Iranian national and a civilian vessel that was reportedly targeted in a recent incident.

Sybiha emphasized that Russia's aggression is the underlying cause of all incidents in the region, and that Russia bears full responsibility for any provocations and casualties. He urged his Iranian counterpart to refrain from any steps that might lead to further escalation and to cease all forms of support for Russia's war effort in Ukraine.

The conversation highlights Ukraine's diplomatic efforts to manage tensions and clarify its stance amid ongoing conflict with Russia.
