Ukraine's Defence Ministry has confirmed that its armed forces carried out a successful strike overnight into 22 August on a logistics hub operated by the online marketplace Ozon in the city of Chapayevsk, located in Russia's Samara Oblast. According to the ministry, this was the first time this particular facility had been targeted, and the strike caused a significant fire.

In its statement, the ministry described the operation as an "opening goal," referring to the destruction of logistics facilities belonging to the Russian company Ozon. It added that systematic strikes on centres storing dual-use goods are intended to disrupt enemy logistics chains and to weigh on the Russian economy more broadly.

The ministry specifically noted that this action follows previous strikes on the 15 largest logistics hubs belonging to Wildberries, another major Russian online retailer. After those facilities were hit, Ozon became the next target.

Ozon confirms the attack

Ozon itself has acknowledged the incident, confirming via its own Telegram channel that its logistics centre in Samara Oblast was struck by unmanned aerial vehicles. The company has not released further details regarding the extent of the damage or the operational consequences of the strike.

The attack fits into a broader pattern of Ukrainian operations aimed at facilities linked to the storage and movement of dual-use goods on Russian territory, part of an effort to increase economic pressure on Russia amid the ongoing war.
