Ukrainian Drone Attack on Moscow Region: One Child Killed, Dozens of Drones Shot Down
On the morning of June 30, a Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region killed a six-month-old infant and injured several others. Russian authorities reported 419 drones destroyed across 18 regions.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported on his Telegram channel that Ukrainian drones struck the Moscow region on the morning of June 30. Air defenses began shooting down drones around 4 a.m., and by the time of publication, Sobyanin had reported 56 destroyed. He initially stated there were no casualties or damage.
However, Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov later said a private home in the suburb of Yegoryevsk caught fire after a drone crashed into it. A six-month-old child was killed, and one other child along with two adults were hospitalized. According to Vorobyov, air defense forces shot down 60 drones over Domodedovo, Chekhov, Dubna, Kashira, Voskresensk, Pavlovsky Posad, Odintsovo, Bronnitsy, Ramenskoye, Stupino, Kolomna, and Yegoryevsk.
Russia's Defense Ministry stated that air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 419 Ukrainian drones overnight across 18 Russian regions and occupied Crimea. Residents of Tula, Novorossiysk, and Ryazan reported explosions.
This marks the largest attack on Moscow since June 18, when nearly 200 Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian capital, causing a fire at a refinery in Kapotnya. That attack injured 17 people and killed an eight-year-old girl.
Airports in Domodedovo and Zhukovsky were temporarily closed.
