In late July, Ukrainian figure skater Kirilo Marsak visited Latvia, spending a week at an intensive training camp. The training took place at the club run by his former teammate, Fedir Kulish.
During the visit, a conversation took place in central Riga, during which the two walked through the streets of Old Riga. In the conversation, the Ukrainian Olympic-level athlete revealed that at one point in his career there had been a possibility of settling in Latvia on a long-term basis.
Comparison with a former teammate
Marsak's former teammate, Fedir Kulish, has already chosen to build his sporting career in connection with Latvia and currently runs the training club that hosted Marsak's visit. The conversation also touched on whether Marsak would have considered a similar step and represented Latvia in international competitions, as Kulish has done.
The Riga visit was primarily tied to sporting preparation and the chance to train in a familiar environment alongside a former teammate. The week-long training camp allowed the athlete to continue preparing for the upcoming season, while also renewing his ties with Latvia, a country he already appears to know well from earlier experience.
